The End Of The World As We Know It

And I feel fine. I went to see "Skyline" when it come out a couple of months ago. For those of you who haven't seen it, aliens attack Los Angeles (and presumably the rest of the world). The main characters spend the rest of the movie trying to survive. It got me to thinking. Please don't think I'm longing for alien invasions, human genocide and all that, but sometimes I wonder what would happen if there were an event so grand and epic that it forever altered the course of human history, as contact with another intelligent species would be. And then somedays I just wish I didn't have go to work.

Today Was One Of Those Days

My boss, as I mentioned in my previous post, says I get under his skin. So, in an effort to avoid this, I talk to him as little as possible. One of the last conversations I had with him concerned our blank pages for our guest register books. I told him we were out and needed more. He told me he would take care of it. That was over a week ago. Today the owner tells me we have someone coming in to purchase a guest book and that he told them they could have their pages printed while they waited. I told him we were out of blank pages. He jumps all over me for letting us run out. I said that I had told the boss, but the owner tells me that's not good enough. I need to stay on top of these things. I told him the boss get irritated when I do things like that, but he said to just do it and let him know if I get any grief from my boss. I swear, I'm danged if I do and danged if I don't.
This really irked me, considering I was already in a bad mood. My boss and the other guy were on duty this weekend. They had a busy time of it, getting 4 or 5 calls, 3 of which were embalmed. So I walk into work this morning to find that both vans are parked at the unloading zone. We normally put the vehicles in a parking place after every call, but apparently they think the rules don't apply to them. I refused to put them away. All three bodies needed suturing and bathing, so we did that, and in the middle of it all we get a death call, which is another embalming case. On the way to the call, we realize we don't have a stretcher because they never put one back in the hearse. So we turn around and go back to the funeral home and grab a stretcher from the other van, get to the house and realize there is no sheet or pillow. The other guy (not my boss) who was on duty complains that no one put the van away. Kiss my backside. I drove by the funeral home Sunday at 3pm and it was out; they had a call later that evening and yet it was still not put away, and it was still parked in the unloading zone this morning. It only takes a minute to park the vehicles, people! In the meantime, we're suturing and bathing 3 bodies, shifting them around, going on calls, doing more embalming, and we're the ones who are supposed to clean up after the other team? I don't think so.

New Years Resolution

This year I resolve to keep my mouth shut. It seems that every time I talk to my coworkers, I open my big fat mouth and say things that are best left unsaid. For example, I heard something yesterday concerning my boss making all the arrangements for the next week or so. I mentioned this to another director, and now it's all been blown out of proportion. I also found that my boss told this director that I get under his skin. So, in an effort to keep a low profile and stay out of everyone's way, I'm shutting up this year.
