I'm a Funeral Services graduate embarking on a new career. I graduated high school in 1981, served honorably in the United States Navy from 1982-1986, been married since 1986, and have one son. I've relocated to a new state and have begun working in my chosen profession of Funeral Services, and I've never been happier.

They're Here!

Meaning the Electronic Death Certificates. A training and orientation seminar is being held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and of course none of my colleagues have bothered to prepare by going through the online tutorials. Our session is Tuesday afternoon. On the plus side, that means I'm indispensable since I'm the only one with any clue as to what's going on. The system will be implemented by the end of this week, most likely.

Friday was an interesting day. The owner left for the day at 11am, our other director also left at 11am for a funeral (not work, he had a death in the family), our errand guy and Returning Employee left at lunch. So for the rest of the day it was myself and our new administrative assistant.  I was going through the files, calling families to let them know death certificates and cremated remains were in, and I discovered that one of the families had ordered a plaque for the urn. Of course, no one had bothered to order it, so I ran to the trophy shop and placed the order. When I got back, I found out the family had come in and there was also supposed to be a memorial package, which had not been done. I quickly put that together, and they came back later to pick it up. It was very frustrating because these are the kinds of issues I used to deal with when my old boss was still around. He would make the arrangements, then let us "clean up" after him.
