Unsettling News
I got some rather unsettling news today. It turns out the owner is retiring and selling the business to my former boss, with whom I've had some less than ideal interactions. He says he'll keep me on, but that his first day as owner will be my first day, as well. I take that to mean I'm on some sort of probationary period, which I fear will include a pay cut. He also said he will be making all the arrangements, which confuses me, because he also said he has some ideas to help me "come out of my shell." I'm not sure what he has in mind; I guess time will tell.
If you're a praying reader, pray for me. Thank You.

Do you have the option to leave? I don't know what the market is for Directors but I've always understood that you guys were like independent contractors and could come ang go. Change might do you you good.
In the mean time, I wish you well and will be thinking of you, I've been through this scenario myself.
Often.
If the job market were better, yes, I could leave. However, there are a large number of unemployed funeral directors in this area. In addition, I am not experienced at making complex arrangements, such as burials and ship-outs. I usually handle simple cremations or cremations with memorial services.
Hope it all works out for the best for you.
It's been a long time since we talked but I'm the guy from northern Indiana that had tried for years to get a job in a funeral home. I'm happy to say that my wish has come true. I now work part time as needed for a fh about 20 minutes from my house. I've been doing it for about 6 months now. I've already had some great opportunities and experiences. Help with house calls, done a few solo removals from nursing homes, help in prep room dressing casketing set-up for services. prep for crematory etc. Also work visitations, park cars and work funerals. It has been great and I'm not disappointed at all. Boss is a great Christian guy. He's younger than me but a great mentor as far as funeral business. Still work full time at a tv station but hope to do full time at fh some day. I'm very blessed.
